Nailed it! I have the honor of being cast as "Mr. Applegate" in Blue Earth Town and Country Players production of "Damn Yankees". The character is actually the devil in disguise who convinces a dreamer to give up his soul to fulfill his dream of being the worlds best baseball player and win the pennant from those "Damn Yankees"!! rehearsals start May 28th!!!!!
It's musical season, and you can DAMN well bet i'm going to be auditioning for this one! Come one come all. A funny story about a man willing to give up his soul to relive his glory days and have his beloved D.C. Senators beat those Damn Yankees!
The Laptop is a-buzz with activity for the new year. There are 4 stories done for the upcoming horror anthology "Nyctophobia". Done so far are "Mr. Matthews Checks Out", "Lights in the sky", "Back Roads", "Lucifer's Parade". It's been hard because each one of these stories is begging to be at least a novella instead of a short story. Then i think to myself am i going to say too much with my writing...or am i just being lazy? i guess we'll find out when i'm ready to publish.
Also, the new novel for 2014, "The Land of Nod" has been outlined, the characters developed, and the possible ending is worked out. I actually had this book half written, but then i decided to change the back story, the sex of two of the characters, and changed the plot. Same concept, just a different way of telling the story. Hopefully made it richer.
Outside of writing, a bit excited for the auditions to begin for Blue Earth Town and Country Players who are presenting "Damn Yankees". Not sure if I will be auditioning or not, but i do love acting so much and i love the folks in Blue Earth.
The directors said that i was a good character actor, but weren't sure if i had enough strength in singing to support the role. So they gave me one more shot to prove i could do it.
Thankfully, after a shady deal in a parking lot of some rural bar and grill, i secured the soundtrack and that's all i listened to until last night.
I was afraid of a few things. I wanted the part, but i also wanted this to be a GREAT musical for the troupe. I didn't want to come off as amatuerish. So i had to really soul search on it. Then after an outpouring of support from friends and family and people willing to help me and coach me on their own time i decided to try it.
i tried out last night. I sang a few songs from the soundtrack that i'm comfortable with.
They offered me the part of "Shrek" the ogre. I've never been more excited!
Auditioned this weekend for "The Blue Earth Town and Country Players" for their 2013 summer musical "Shrek: the musical".
Urged on by my kids, i auditioned at their casting call over the weekend.
I am always intimidated with musicals because most people there are seasoned musical vets and can read music. I have always gone by ear. But the musica director Mike Ellingson is so good at making people comfortable and i sang "Guys and Dolls" for the audition. I also read for the part of Shrek, Donkey and Lord Farquaad.
I am hoping for the part of Shrek, but there are so many other talented people who have auditioned for the part as well so crossing my fingers!
The Pen is mightier than the sword, but a sword is a lot more intimidating!
