The directors said that i was a good character actor, but weren't sure if i had enough strength in singing to support the role. So they gave me one more shot to prove i could do it.
Thankfully, after a shady deal in a parking lot of some rural bar and grill, i secured the soundtrack and that's all i listened to until last night.
I was afraid of a few things. I wanted the part, but i also wanted this to be a GREAT musical for the troupe. I didn't want to come off as amatuerish. So i had to really soul search on it. Then after an outpouring of support from friends and family and people willing to help me and coach me on their own time i decided to try it.
i tried out last night. I sang a few songs from the soundtrack that i'm comfortable with.
They offered me the part of "Shrek" the ogre. I've never been more excited!

Auditioned this weekend for "The Blue Earth Town and Country Players" for their 2013 summer musical "Shrek: the musical".
Urged on by my kids, i auditioned at their casting call over the weekend.
I am always intimidated with musicals because most people there are seasoned musical vets and can read music. I have always gone by ear. But the musica director Mike Ellingson is so good at making people comfortable and i sang "Guys and Dolls" for the audition. I also read for the part of Shrek, Donkey and Lord Farquaad.
I am hoping for the part of Shrek, but there are so many other talented people who have auditioned for the part as well so crossing my fingers!
