who is this moron?
I was born in Honolulu, Hawa'ii in 1970. Been on the move ever since and somehow ended up in the wintery tundra of Southern Minnesota.
I began writing when i figured out what a typewriter does. my first stories were sci fi adventures of Captain Epic. He saw his first adventure in "Captain Epic vs. The Mabeeples" and ended his adventures when i was in Jr. High in "Captain Epic vs. The Vampire Vixens of Venus".
When i became a teenager (much to my parents displeasure), i began listening to The Doors, Pink Floyd, and Bob Dylan. Those bands turned me on to poetry and lyrics. From there i got into beat poets like Jack Kerouac and Rod McKuen.
I began to delve into poetry but still wrote fiction. Mostly teen age angst stories a la S.E. Hinton. From there Stephen King, Clive Barker, John Saul, and H.P. Lovecraft turned my interest into writing horror fiction.
Into adulthood i went to art school in Omaha, Nebraska. (yeah, i had that same reaction when my parents informed me they found an art school in OMAHA, NEBRASKA) After many bad experiences there, i did art as a freelancer and started writing memoir-esque stories. Sold some to indie mags. I moved back to Minnesota and found myself writing poetry for cathartic reasons. Some of those became songs in a band i was in called "Bent Penny". The rest were published in a couple of poetry books i conned a publishing company to publish for me.
some of my biggest influences in writing have been Stephen King, Jack Kerouac, H.P. Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Dorothy Parker, Harper Lee, Sylvia Plath, David Sedaris, Charles Bukowski and Kurt Vonnegut.
Praise for Bradley L. Bodeker's writing:
" Bradley L. Bodeker is one of the more evocative authors I have read. Whether he takes you spiraling down to the depths of the dark abyss, or takes your hand in the sultry tango of seduction, or leads you in his pied piper suit through ethical dilemma, he never fails to connect with his reader. I am often exhausted at the end of one of his pieces, having been immersed to the point of losing my own self. Read his works at your own risk, knowing that you will be changed forevermore at the conclusion. If you have the chance to read one of his satirical pieces, I warn you to check your medications. You will laugh until you pop a vein in your head and that could be hazardous to your health!
Bradley puts his soul into each of his pieces, allowing it to be free when he has finished, to take a life of its own. Celebrate these lives from the depths to the heights and find your life enhanced, if in some small way"
-David Moore author of "In the midst of the maelstrom" (reflect shuns in a broken mirror/another sliver of madness)
"Poetry is raw emotion told to us through words, spoken through images painted by the pen of only the most beautiful of souls.
Poetry is magical, and good poetry can never be forgotten-it stands the test of time.
Here we have true poet's (proet?) words, revealing the depths of his very soul, some memories captured in bliss, and others, harboring a cynical perception of life. And yet, the author opens up his soul for all to see, maybe even to learn from.
I love this collection of poems because I feel that the author is presenting his whole self to us, his readers. He shows us that it is ok to feel, to have emotions that may not always appease the masses. He shows us that it is ok to get angry with life, and yet, love it all the same.
I have to honestly say, that this poetry collection hits me hard and sits up there with some of my favorite novels (and books of poetry.) It has proven itself worthy, and reads a little like prose and poetry combined. Perhaps this is why I cherish Mr. Bodeker's book...It seems to me, that he has done something unique here. He presents his truths in a lyrical fashion; yet, one almost feels that his poems read like a story...his story.
Buy this book.
There is something truly magnificent going on within these pages. I can't wait for his next book."-Amy Beck Amazon Literary Critic(reflect shuns in a broken mirror)
"I don't normally sit down and read a book in one sitting, but i couldn't put this book down. The action starts early in this book and continues throughout. I kept waiting for the dull boring part but there never was one. There is a great balance between the gruesome horror of a zombie apocalypse and the family ties and love interests in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading."
